The Nail Polish Buying Challenge

EDIT: April 1st 2012: This Post was Orginally Titled: April's Nail Polish Challenge.

But After the interest it has generated in a lot of people, I have changed the title to "The Nail Polish Buying Challenge".
Some people would Love to do the challenge, but due to one reason or the other, They can't do it in the month of April. So, changing the title of the Challenge will allow for it to be used in other months of the year.

I have also been able to create a banner/badge for the challenge and Here it is.

The Nail Polish Buying Challenge

In Whichever Month You're partaking in this challenge, Copy this Badge and Proudly Paste it on your blog/page to let your readers know that you are taking the challenge. Link the Picture back to this Post so that they will understand what the challenge is all about. You could also make a blog post to explain that you'll be taking the challenge. Use this picture and link back to this post.

If you look to the right on my page, You'll see my Badge indicating that I'm taking this challenge in the month of April. I also captioned it: "click to learn more" so that people can click on the badge to bring them to this post.

I am so glad for the turn out and interest in saving money that this challenge has generated in a lot of you out there. :-) 

We love nail polish, Splurging is nice, but having a "Buying break" doesn't hurt anybody.

I'm making a drastic decision for the month of April. This will Hurt, Yes it will, But I have decided that In the Month of April, regarding nail polishes, If it isn't FREE, or isn't 50% off, It's not Coming home!!!

If you're on my facebook page, You would have seen that I made a status about this, and I'm thankful to those of you that replied and are willing to join me in this Challenge.

Yes, this is a drastic decision!!! A lot of you also agreed that it would be hard, but more importantly, we are willing to *try* to succeed at this challenge.

This decision began as a challenge to myself, and it didn't come as a result of low cash. Lol... I just would *Love* to see how well I do in this challenge.

I will still post every kind of deals I find on my facebook page and blog, but I will only be participating in FREE deals or 50% (or more) off deals. As a couponer and freebie lover, I already get free polishes and  buy polishes at discounted prices, but I am setting a limit this time. I don't want to put myself on a no buy, because let's face it, those never work. lol.

I have so many polishes that I haven't had the time to wear yet, and I will do my best to wear them in the month of April. So, expect Swatches, Nail Arts, and Just about everything I will think to do with those polishes!!!


Here are the fine Prints to this Challenge: 
BIG RULE: In the Month of April 2012, The polishes you get and keep for yourself will either be free or be 50% or more off. So, I suggest you start entering every giveaway you find. Lol...

From talking to some of you ladies on facebook, questions were brought up, and these next points are included to clarify what is included or exempted from the big rule. And they are as follows:

• Polishes you buy as a gift to others will not be included in that rule. - I understand some of us are in birthday groups and big swap groups. So previous commitments you made such as birthday groups e.t.c are exempted from this rule. 
• Someone on facebook suggested that the rule should not apply to polishes that are $2 or less. But This does not mean you should go crazy and buy every drug store polish you find to feed your addiction. Remember the goal here is SAVING. ;-) (Yes, I'm talking to myself too...lol)
• If you're buying online... do not add shipping to the percentage. This applies to the polish price only.
• Nail Polish related items are also a part of this rule. Sadly. Stamping plates, fimos, glitters, rhinestones, e.t.c also count as "nail polishes". If they're under $2, go ahead and buy. :-)

I wish I was artistic and could make some kind of badge/banner for this challenge. So that us bloggers partaking in this challenge could put a badge on our blog or something..

Once again,, this decision is just a challenge. I am not broke (glory to God), and I just want to see how well I do.
The Do It Yourself Lady in me believes I can DO this. My facebook status about this decision also shows me that there are some of you who want to do this as well. We can do this Y'all. Polishes are fun and our hobby is probably the cheapest and the least harmful hobby there is out there, but having the money to buy doesn't mean we have to buy. At least just for the month of April.. LOL (We can go crazy after April.. Lol, J/K)!

P.S: If you find any kind of deals, please don't hesitate to share them with me as some of you have been doing. As I stated, I will still post all kinds of deals and sales. The only difference is the ones I'll be participating in. :-) I just might get bold and make this decision apply to everything and not just nail polishes. Hmmm? Ok, nahh.. Let's not get crazy here.. This decision is for nail polishes only. Lol...

Review: CouponChief.com

Hello Sweeties.. (Please tell me it makes you happy when I use words of endearments?) lol.

So, I'm sure you all know by now that I love coupons, deals, freebies, discounts, and everything else that falls into the category of "Getting things cheap or free".
Well, Imagine my joy when I found out about Coupon Chief!

I carefully took my time to familiarize myself with the website because I wanted to give you an informed and detailed review about it.

Well, smile for me darlings because I think I just found a website you all will love!
Coupon Chief is well... a website full of coupons from lots and lots of stores. Not only are there coupons to stores, but you can also get coupons on travelling deals from Expedia and such.

It might interest you to know that they have coupons from Sally Beauty Supply, Sephora, Julep, Ricky's NYC and other nail polish carrying stores.
The website allows it's users i.e Us crazy couponers to be involved in the couponing process. Users can create profile, upload coupons, state whether or not a coupon works, and the users can also get rewarded for uploading their coupons. This is called the pay-2-share program, and with this program,  the coupon uploader get 2% of the sales when someone uses the coupon code they uploaded.

The website allows its users to search by what they're looking for or by a store name. There's also a list of stores on the website, and you can just click on each store to see the coupons available for those stores.
I also think it's neat that the website allows users to search by keywords such as beauty, cosmetics, books, food or whatever else comes to mind.

To make this website work for you the user, you can sign up to get notified whenever a coupon has been posted under your favorites stores.

You can also Like or Follow Coupon Chief on Facebook and Twitter to get updated through their statuses.

Girly-Girl Challenge - Day Eight

Hello Darlings....

The End is here! Today is the Final Day of the girly Girl Challenge. It's sad, but I'm proud of myself for completing the challenge. It helped me use a lot of my untried polishes and I couldn't be happier! I also enjoyed the posts by all the other ladies I did the challenge with. There are so many talented people in our nail polish community. :-)

Well, Today the Lists says: Girls Just wanna Have fun - It's true, we do. Let your mani show us how fun loving you are.

I had so many ideas running through my mind for this one. I also had something... called TIME! Lol.. SO I knew I had to go all out for this challenge. It is afterall the last one, and I want to end this with a bang! Right?

So... I decided to do something I hadn't done for my blog yet. I decided to do the water marbling technique y'all!!!

I was so excited, I got my bottled water, and everything ready, and got to business!!!
I first had to test the polishes I wanted to use, and settled with two polishes that appeared to spread well in water.
I can't say this is my first water marbling, but it's the first time I did something decent enough to show. lol... I'm not satisfied, and I would have loved for each design to have some resemblance to each other.
Nevertheless though, Here's what I came up with..

I added some glitters just because Glitters are fun. The  glitter is Wet n Wild - Kaleidoscope 

I Love the glitter. And Although the designs all look different on each nail, They are growing on me, and I won't be too OCD about it. Lol.. 

Here are the polishes used. Left to right: Kleancolor white as base color. Loreal - Apple of my eye and Wet n Wild - Black Creme (Both used for the marbling).

 The mess called my "work station" where this whole thing went down. lol..

And Just to show you that this water marbling wasn't all peachy, here's the awful mess that I ended up with on my right hand. Lol... I don't know why the right hand just didn't want to turn out right. I even took a chunk of my index finger during clean up! My Goodness!

You see I didn't watermark the last picture? I shall not be associated with such a mess. LOL... Hahaha. I crack myself up! 

SO what do you think of my (left hand) water marbling ladies? I Hope this mani shows that I'm a girl who loves to have fun. :-D

The red polish turned pink in the water, but I love it. It spreads really nicely in the water.

Girly-Girl Challenge - Day Seven

Sup Sugars!

It's Day Seven, A.K.A Second to the last day of the Girly Girl Challenge.
I Thank goodness for the flexibility of this challenge because I've been really busy this past couple of days. So I'm glad I can still catch up. :-)

But, What Shall I do with myself when this is over? lol.. Day 7 already?!


Today, the lists says: Sugar Spice and everything nice - that's what little girls are made of, show us your sweet or spicy inspired nails. `

I went really girly with this one. Saw one of my Born Pretty (konad dupe) plates, and Immediately thought this image on it was sugar spice and everything nice. LOVE is a beautiful thing. You agree right?

My Base color is Wet n Wild - Hannah Pinktana. Such a girly color. Pink Holographic goodness! It was sheer at first, but it became opaque in 3-4 coats. I didn't mind the many coats, because I used my color club top coat, and that dried it within minutes. 

 This polish on its own looks like sugar.. lol. Pink sugar... and I just love this design!! I Used Kleancolor - Black as my stamping polish. (I told you Black was good for stamping too!)

Deborah Lippmann - It's Raining Men Swatch

Hello Loves!
A couple of days ago, I used this polish for my Girly-Girl Challenge, and I Just Loved it so very much! A couple of you guys also commented that you love how bright and RED the polish looked, so I decided that the polish needed a post of it's own.

Deborah Lippmann's - It's Raining Men is the Perfect red polish for me! I am sooo Glad I own this polish.

Once again, this red is the Kind of red you wear when you want people to know you're wearing a red polish. Lol.. It got opaque in three thin coats.

I know the flash in these pictures show VNL (Visible Nail Line), but I promise you, in person, it does't show at all... and it's opaque looking. I got a lot of compliment on this one, and it's that classic red polish you see people wear in Hollywood. You know what I mean? lol..

Also, You know when some bloggers say a polish applies like "Butter"? Well, I had that experience with this polish. Lol.. It's Raining men applied Like Butter!!!!!!!!! It glided on my nails easily and these pictures are with NO cleanup! As In, I didn't have to clean up... the brush is amazing and I am on the look out for more Deborah Lippmanns that don't have glitters in them. I thought the only DLs worth owning were the glitter bombs she makes, but now, I want other cream polishes!!

I know a lot of people say DLs are expensive, and well, I agree but I can *understand* why. The gorgeous bottle, the ease of application, and the non-toxic smell. Someone's gotta pay for such amazing-ness! But, err, that doesn't mean I'll pay the full price though. Lol.. I got this one with the Eversave/Ariva deal I posted a while back. 

Ok... maybe I'll pay full price for one I really want, but You know I'm  a coupon/discount/deal type of Girl.. ;-)

Girly-Girl Challenge - Day Six

Hello Love Muffins... lol...

I'm here with Day Six of the Girly-Girl Challenge!! And the List says: Who Inspires You? Show some Love to your favorite female role model by creating gorgeous nails in their honor.

Well, Hello! Who Inspires me? SO Many Many Women inspire me.
But Lately, I've been getting a LOT of Inspiration from/by Joyce Meyer!
Do you Know Her? She's an amazing LADY! Her messages, and words always always INSPIRE ME to be a better person.
I am in love with her and the fire of Christ that's in her.

SO, Of course, Since I didn't know exactly what mani to do in her honor, I ran to Google image search, and found an amazing picture of her. That picture is what I Tried to translate into today's mani. Lol..

And Here's the Picture that Inspired me beside my nails.... Joyce Meyer is so gorgeous!

I used Deborah Lippmann - It's raining men as my base color. It's so appropriate, and I have good things to say about this polish. (Review coming soon). Then I used Kleancolor - Black to do the accent nail (in place of Joyce's black inner vest). :-D

And a Final Look. :-) I added a rhinestone in place of Joyce's earrings. Lol..

China Glaze - Ultamate Holiday

Hello Loves..
Hope your day has been going well so far. I've spent the most part of mine catching up on blogs. I still have a lot to go through, and comment on. *sigh*. I would enjoy commenting if some blog remove that captcha code that google has. Guessing two words just doesn't make me happy. Plus when I guess wrong, I just want to leave and not comment. :-(
I know it's not the blog owner's fault, but I think it's better to set the comments to be reviewed before posting instead of having the captcha phrase. :-(

Forgive me for my rant. Lol... But I really don't like those things that make you type some words when you want to post a comment. Anyhoo, let's get to today's post. :-)

I told you all about some swatches I found on my computer, and realized I hadn't posted them on here.
Well, One of those unposted swatches is China Glaze - Ultamate Holiday.

This one is a topcoat eater! Without topcoat, it's gritty and not so pretty.
One of the few gold polishes I have and love! It leans gold to green, and In the sun, It's ohhh sooo beautiful!

This reminds me that I need more Holo polishes. Do you love Holos like me?

Girly-Girl Challenge - Day Five

Hello!!
Happy 1st day of SPRING!!!!!!! Yay for pretty colors all around!!

Today is the 5th day of the girly Challenge I'm doing. The List says: Gotta Love Chick Flicks! - We Just can't resist! Wear a mani inspired by your favorite chick flick.

Well, My favorite movie happens to be a Chick Flick... and That is Love and Basketball. I had already done a mani inspired by this movie in my 10 days Challenge, so I had to choose another one of my favorites chick flicks.
I chose A walk to remember because I just Love that movie soooooo very much!


I was debating exactly what I would do that is inspired by the movie, so I went on google image search.
I saw a picture of Jamie Sullivan in a pretty floral dress she wore in the movie, and decided to do a floral mani.
This works perfectly well because today is also the first day of spring! Yay for flowers that will soon blossom!

I stamped with a Pink polish by Shades of the Season, using Born Pretty Store Plate - m64. Then I added pink rhinestones just for additional Girly-ness.

In the Movie A walk to remember, Jamie was soo pretty, and she was delicate. I absolutely feel like this mani expressed that very well. 

Here's a picture I found on google image search. This is Jamie and Landon. The stars of the movie. Look at them, Pure and soft love. I'm such a sucker for chick flicks, romance movies, books and such.

And here's a picture of O.P.I - Pink Friday alone.

OPI - Pink Friday

Pink Friday was a wee bit tricky to apply. I had to use three/four coats to even out balding spots on my nails. It's kind of runny too. :-( 
I love the color though.. I still haven't found this shade of pink with the PERFECT formula. Do you know of any? Please tell  me!

St. Patrick's Day Mani

Hello ladies!

Happy St. Patrick's day. Today is like any other day to me, and I don't really have any "tradition".
I've been seeing lots and lots of green nail polishes! There are so many green polishes out there!

Well, I decided to look through my collection, and found some green polishes I hadn't used yet. So in the spirit of using all my "untried", I chose them for my St. Patty's day mani.

I started with a base color - Wet n Wild - Sage in the City and Layered one my Shades of the season polish in green over here.

Here's a picture of Sage and the City alone. Frosty green! 

 

 I wasn't quite please with my mani, So I whipped out another one of my green "untried" polish! Color Club - Holiday Splendor from the Mistletoe collection.
I used one thick coat of this over the mani above.

Can somebody say YUM!!!? Complete holographic goodness. Yeah, Now it's a celebration!
What's a holo picture without some blurriness to show it's beauty?

Kleancolor - Cafe Au Lait Swatch

Hello darlings.
I was looking through some picture files on my computer and I discovered a lot of "swatches" I never got the chance to post. Aye!

Well, this is a quick post to show you one of them... Kleancolor - Cafe Au Lait

I don't know what Cafe au Lait means, but I know this color makes me want to drink hot chocolate. lol..

I don't usually like "nude" polishes, but I am happy I have this one. It's one of those "work appropriate" polishes. Application was nice too.

Girly-Girl Challenge - Day Four

Hello dearies
Time is flying y'all. Can you believe it's day four of this challenge already? We're half way through!! Yay!
I'm enjoying seeing what the other ladies I'm doing this with have been coming up with, and I am so glad I chose to do this challenge. :-D

Today, The list says we should: Be Inspired by the Runway - What is your favorite trend this season? Show us your stylish mani. 

This Challenge is also going to be my Entry into the Rebecca Likes Nails Art Contest currently going on.

Anyhoo, this one kind of a hard one for me since I honestly don't follow trends.. Lol...I also wanted something lovely for the contest!
When I think of fashion, style, and trends, I Immediately think of colors and crazy combinations! Lots and Lots of colors.
Since it's spring, we all know colors are everywhere! So I remembered this mani I had seen done by Carol and wanted to try.

I didn't do *exactly* what her mani was, but I still have to cite my source as this wasn't entirely my idea. :-)

I stamped on my ring finger using my Born Pretty Store - Hello Kitty plate. 

 I really truly loved the end result of this, and I'm so happy to be sharing it with you. I'm also really glad my Hello kitty plate got another use today! :-D 

Oh, and finally, check out my messy "station". Lol... Here's pretty much everything I used for this mani.

I used my favorite black - Kleancolor -Black as my base color. I keep saying, it was opaque in ONE coat! Applied like a dream. (No clean up was needed)!

I used Acrylic paints for the dots. The Acrylic paints made the colors pop more! Thanks to Carol for this tip.  

And as you can see in the above picture, I used dotting tool, My BornPrettyStore Hello Kitty stamping plate, Stamper and scraper, Dirty tissue, and another stamping plate to put my colors on.  

Rebecca's Contest did not Prohibit Acrylic paint, so that makes me happy. :-)

Girly-Girl Challenge - Day Three

Hello Pretty Peoples!
Hope y'all are having a lovely day so far?
I'm free as a bee for the next couple of weeks, so yay!

Today is day three of the Girly-Girl challenge I'm doing, and the List says: Delicate and Elegant - Adorn yourself with a lovely pattern, color or technique.
For this mani, I had so many ideas, but the one that I eventually went with was influenced by a giveaway I won on facebook. If you're a fan of my page on facebook, you would have seen the stickers I won from Polish+Plus.

For Delicate and Elegant, I chose to use two of my untried polishes again. I went with Zoya - Kristen and Snowsicle, and I chose some lovely flowery/butterfly design from my stickers to use as accent nails.

I didn't use Snowsicle on my ring finger. Snowsicle adds a bit of a shimmer to the mani.

Kristen is so delicate in person. She's a mix between blue and gray. She's so hard to photograph, but what you get in person is a true beauty. I Love it!

 And just to show that Zoya is loved in my home.. lol.. and well, to show you my thumb, Here's a shot I took. ;-) Delicate and Elegant right?
